Artigo IV
Portugal concorda em cooperar com a China na cobrança dos direitos sobre o opio exportado de Macau para os portos chinezes, do mesmo modo e durante o mesmo tempo que a Inglaterra prestar igual cooperação á China, na cobrança dos direitos sobre o opio exportado de Hong-Kong para os portos chinezes. As bases d՚esta cooperação serão estabelecidas por uma convenção appensa a este tratado, e como elle igualmente valida e obrigatoria para ambas as altas partes contratantes. Artigo V
Sua Magestade Fidelissima El-Rei de Portugal e dos Algarves poderá acreditar um embaixador, ministro ou outro qualquer agente diplomatico junto de Sua Magestade Imperial o Imperador da China, e a este agente, bem como aos empregados da missão e suas familias, será permittido fixar a sua residencia em Pekim, visitar esta côrte ou residir em outro ponto onde seja igualmente concedida residencia aos representantes diplomaticos de outras nações, como melhor convier ao governo portuguez. O governo chinez poderá tambem acreditar, se lhe convier, um embaixador, ministro ou qualquer outro agente diplomatico para residir em Lisboa, ou visitar esta côrte quando o seu governo lh՚o ordenar. Artigo VI
Os agentes diplomaticos de Portugal e da China gosarão, reciprocamente, no logar da sua residencia, de todos os privilegios e immunidades que lhes concede o direito das gentes ; suas pessoas, familias e casas, bem como as suas correspondencias serão inviolaveis. Artigo VII
As correspondencias officiaes enviadas pelas auctoridades portuguezas ás auctoridades chinezas serão escriptas em portuguez e acompanhadas da traducção chineza, servindo de documento a cada nação a versão escripta na sua propria lingua. Artigo VIII
As formulas das correspondencias officiaes entre as auetoridades portuguezas e chinezas serão reguladas pelas suas categorias e posições respectivas, tendo por base a mais completa reciprocidade. Entre os altos funccionarios portuguezes e os altos funccionarios chinezes na capital do Imperio ou em qualquer outro logar, estas correspondencias terão a fórma de officio ou communicação (Chan-hoei); entre os funccionarios portuguezes subalternos e as primeiras auctoridades das provincias usar-se ha para aquelles a fórma de exposição (Xen-chen) e para estas a de declaração (Chah-sing), e os funccionarios subalternos de ambas as nações deverão corresponder-se em termos de perfeita igualdade. Os negociantes, e geralmente todos os individuos não investidos de caracter official, seguirão para com as auctoridades a fórma de representação (Pin cheng). Artigo IX
Sua Magestade Fidelissima El-Rei de Portugal e dos Algarves poderá nomear consules geraes, consules, vice-consules ou agentes consulares nos portos e mais sitios do imperio da China, onde seja permittido a outra nação tel-os. Estes funccionarios terão attribuições e poderes similhantes aos que tiverem os consules de outras nações, e gosarão de todas as isenções, privilegios e immunidades de que gosarem, a todo o tempo, os funccionarios consulares da nação mais favorecida. Os consules e as auctoridades locaes deverão tratar-se reciprocamente com polidez e corresponder-se em termos de perfeita igualdade. Article IV
Portugal agrees to cooperate with China in the collection of duties on opium exported from Macau into Chinese ports, in the same way, and as long as England co-operates with China in the collection of duties on opium exported from Hong-Kong into Chinese ports. The basis of this cooperation will be established by a convention appended to this Treaty, which shall be as valid and binding to both the High Contracting Parties as the present Treaty. Article V
His Most Faithful Majesty the King of Portugal and the Algarves may appoint an Ambassador, Minister or other Diplomatic Agent to the court of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of China, and this agent as well as the persons of his suite and their families, will be permitted, at the option of the Portuguese Government, to reside permanently in Peking, to visit that court, or to reside at any other place where such residence is equally accorded to the diplomatic representatives of other nations. The Chinese Government may also, if it thinks fit, appoint an Ambassador, Minister or other Diplomatic Agent to reside in Lisbon, or to visit that court when his Government should order. Article VI
The diplomatic agents of Portugal and China shall reciprocally enjoy in the place of their residence all the prerogatives and immunities accorded by the law of nations; their persons, families and homes, as well as their correspondence shall be inviolate. Article VII
The official correspondence addressed by Portuguese authorities to the Chinese authorities shall be written in the Portuguese language accompanied by a translation in Chinese, and each nation shall regard as authoritative the document written in its own language. Article VIII
The form of correspondence between the Portuguese and the Chinese authorities will be regulated by their respective rank and position based upon complete reciprocity. Between the high Portuguese and Chinese functionaries at the capital or elsewhere, such correspondence will take the form of despatch (Chan-hoei); between the subordinate functionaries of Portugal and the chief authorities of the Provinces, the former shall make use of the form of exposition (Xen-chen) and the latter that of declaration (Chah-sing); and the subordinate officers of both nations shall correspond together on terms of perfect equality. Merchants and generally all others who are not invested with official character shall adopt in addressing the authorities the form of representation or petition (Pincheng). Article IX
His Most Faithful Majesty the King of Portugal and the Algarves may appoint Consuls General, Consuls, Vice Consuls, or Consular Agents in the ports or other places where it is allowed to other nations to have them. These functionaries will have powers and attributions similar to those of the Consuls of other nations and will enjoy all the exemptions, privileges and immunities which at any time the consular functionaries of the most favoured nation may enjoy. The Consuls and the local authorities will show to each other reciprocal civilities and correspond with each other on terms of perfect equality.
