Donald Robert Perry Marquis
(1878–1937)

Pen name Don Marquis. American poet, artist, newspaper columnist, humorist, playwright and author. Remembered best for his comic creations, "Archy and Mehitabel," a cockroach and an alley cat, supposed authors of humorous verse. During his lifetime he was equally famous for creating another fictitious character, "the Old Soak."
