This March, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas for improving gender diversity on Wikimedia projects. Less than 20% of Wikimedia contributors are women, and many important topics are still missing in our content. We invite all Wikimedians to participate. Greetings,

I am pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Wikimedia Foundation Elections. This year the Board and the FDC Staff are looking for a diverse set of candidates from regions and projects that are traditionally under-represented on the board and in the movement as well as candidates with experience in technology, product or finance. To this end they have published letters describing what they think is needed and, recognizing that those who know the community the best are the community themselves, the election committee is accepting nominations for community members you think should run and will reach out to those nominated to provide them with information about the job and the election process.

This year, elections are being held for the following roles:

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long term sustainability of the Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. There are three positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the board elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
The Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) makes recommendations about how to allocate Wikimedia movement funds to eligible entities. There are five positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) Ombud
The FDC Ombud receives complaints and feedback about the FDC process, investigates complaints at the request of the Board of Trustees, and summarizes the investigations and feedback for the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. One position is being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC Ombudsperson elections page.

The candidacy submission phase lasts from 00:00 UTC April 20 to 23:59 UTC May 5 for the Board and from 00:00 UTCApril 20 to 23:59 UTC April 30 for the FDC and FDC Ombudsperson. This year, we are accepting both self-nominations and nominations of others. Wikidata: Access to data from arbitrary items is coming

When using data from Wikidata on Wikipedia and other sister projects, there is currently a limitation in place that hinders some use cases: data can only be accessed from the corresponding item. So, for example, the Wikipedia article about Berlin can only get data from the Wikidata item about Berlin but not from the item about Germany. This had technical reasons. We are now removing this limitation. It is already done for French Wikisource and Dutch Wikipedia. Your project is one of the next ones:

  • 18. May: Farsi Wikipedia, English Wikivoyage, Hebrew Wikipedia
  • 1. June: Italian Wikipedia, all remaining Wikisource

We hope to have it rolled out nearly everywhere by the end of June 2015.

We invite you to play around with this new feature if you are one of the people who have been waiting for this for a long time. If you have technical issues/questions with this you can come to d:Wikidata:Contact the development team.

A note of caution: Please be careful with how many items you use for a single page. If it is too many pages, loading might get slow. We will have to see how the feature behaves in production to see where we need to tweak and how.

Eu vim aqui para lêr Os Lusíadas e, embora o texto (novo e original) e a mídia são perfeitos, eu queria começar uma discussão sobre o desenho deste projeto. Eu gostaria a caixa de navegação tiver más padding porque as setas quase tocam o border. Esse pode ser um princípio de uma discussão mais grande —como, por exemplo, o desenho da página principal, que já não tem (creo) um linguagem consistente. Olá,

O design do Wikisource em português é, na verdade, um grande caderno de recortes (ou colcha de retalhos) de coisas que vemos em outros wikis e adaptamos para cá. Eu pessoalmente tenho pouquíssimo conhecimento de CSS e JS mas, até onde observo, não ocorre esse efeito que você descreve. Será que é algo com a resolução de tela e o navegador usado? @Giro720, He7d3r e Dianakc: (espero que estejam com notificação de menção ativada pra cá) poderiam ver isso? Ele tem JS e CSS personalizado, mas tenho a impressão dessa constatação ser anterior a ele desenvolver melhor essas configurações.

Á página principal é realmente algo que precisa ser mudado. Ela foi desenhada imaginando que este Wikisource seria maior do que é. Uma que agrada bastante é a do Wikisource em catalão. Sinta-se à vontade para rascunhar algo quando quiser =)

O layout é bom. Concordo em tirar os links para wikisources em outra língua (que continuarão na barra lateral), uma vez que aquela contagem de textos ficava obsoleto muito rapidamente. Acho que está na hora de ou remover a seção tradução da PP ou enxugá-la; e adicionar uma seção para as últimas obras revisadas (o Nouveautés da ws.fr). Se for mantermos os dois, evitaremos espaço em branco demasiado na segunda coluna quando a "Revisão em destaque do mês" tomar mais espaço vertical na PP. @Giro720: o espaço em branco debaixo do box em tradução ficou consideravelmente grande aqui (1074x768 no Chrome 41.0.2272.118) =/
Coisas que eu pessoalmente alteraria:
  1. A imagem no box do sobre o Wikisource. Ilustra e etc mas, não agrega grandes coisas, apenas emperequeta;
  2. Cortaria o box em tradução. A grande maioria delas está infelizmente abandonada; substituiria por um box como o ca:Plantilla:Novetats-galeria (obviamente menor, e sem os índices para as digitalizações que a gente envia para a arcaização);
  3. Criaria uma seção de novos textos no estilo da fr:Wikisource:Accueil/Nouveaux textes;
    • Essas duas seções talvez não fossem muito atualizadas, mas isso não é exatamente um problema. Refletiria o andamento das coisas por aqui. O problema seria mais em as iniciar, especialmente a segunda... (a primeira resolveria fácil, enviando umas digitalizações novas)
  4. Reformularia a {{textos}}, mas não sei exatamente como.

Sobre a barra de navegação azul que fica no topo de Os Lusíadas/I, parece mesmo ter pouco ou nenhum padding atualmente. Mas o mesmo problema ocorre na en:The Fourteenth of July/Act II então acho que a alteração deveria ser feita na própria mw:Extension:Proofread Page, via pedido no Phabricator - se é que aquela barra é feita pela extensão e não por predefinições (não me recordo).
Em relação à lista de textos novos, se quiserem utilizar uma "Categoria:Novos textos", podem deixar que a mw:Extension:DynamicPageList (Wikimedia) gera a lista de títulos novos a partir da categoria (mas não virá com informações adicionais sobre cada título). Hum, não sei se entendi a sua dúvida.

Se o que deseja é o recurso de, ao seguir algum redlink, o MediaWiki exibir o texto reconhecido por OCR, há duas opções. Uma é, ao acessar alguma das páginas (como esta), procurar pelo botão OCR na caixa de edição, clicar e aguardar alguns segundos. Outra, seria passar a ferramenta de OCR por algum aplicativo externo (Adobe Acrobat, ou ABBYY FineReader), mas selecionando as configurações adequadas para que a digitalização não sofra redução na qualidade da imagem.

Esse em específico é um manuscrito. Testei nos dois modos, mas os resultados foram catastróficos (vieram caracteres aleatórios). Uma alternativa pode ser copiar de algum website (ou daqui do Wikisource mesmo, em Cantigas de Santa Maria) o texto equivalente à página da digitalização, e depois fazer manualmente as alterações de grafia que provavelmente existam. Depois, será necessário chamar o texto da digitalização. Fiz recentemente isso em páginas como a Constituição de 1988 da República Federativa do Brasil/Título IV, comparando as edições pelo histórico da página pode te ajudar.

Ou ainda, seguindo a documentação do en.Wikisource sobre o assunto, que pode ser encontrada (junto a uma das milhões de coisas a fazer no pt.Wikisource) por esta subpágina minha.

Se a dúvida é quanto ao Index:Cantigas de Santa Maria (fac-símile).pdf, as páginas do en.Wikisource também orientam nesse sentido. Há o porém do manuscrito não ter paginação. Há pelo menos duas alternativas: 1) deixar a Erro: a etiqueta "pagelist" só pode ser usada no espaço nominal Índice: sem preenchimento mesmo; 2) criar um agrupamento/paginação artificial conforme for trabalhando com a digitalização. Escolha a que te parecer mais conveniente.

Aha, obrigado pelo apoio. Eu comecei digitalizar as Cantigas. Eu não era seguro de que deveria se chamar no main namespace porque já existe Cantigas de Santa Maria. Agora entendi. Vai substituindo o já existente em Cantigas de Santa Maria pela versão com o manuscrito. É basicamente isso que venho fazendo com os sonetos de Camões e de Bocage (tal como aqui). Há a diferença de grafias, mas essa é uma questão menor. Penso que o que importa é garantir a procedência do material (tal como com as informações com referências na Wikipédia). Alguém pode me ajudar? Na predefinição {{em tradução}}, o aviso diz: "Por favor, mantenha este aviso até que toda a obra tenha sido traduzida." Eu sei que em espanhol, o equivalente seria correto ("Por favor, mantenga este aviso hasta que toda la obra haya sido traducida.") mas a flexão do verbo ter—tenha—é correto ainda que a tradução da obra terá lugar no futuro? Como lhes soa "mantenha este aviso até que toda a obra tiver sido traduzida"? Quando usa-se o subjuntivo do presente e o subjuntivo do futuro? (Em espanhol, não usa-se nem existe subjuntivo do futuro na fala quotidiana. Além disso, a minha língua materna é o inglês.)

Sou um tanto suspeito para opinar (tanto por ter escrito o aviso em si, quanto por ser falante nativo do idioma me sujeitar a reproduzir vícios de linguagem de outros), mas me soa como as duas formas serem válidas. Pela tabela gerada em http://www.conjugacao-de-verbos.com/verbo/ter-feminino.php (que não tenho como saber o quanto é correta ou não), tenha tanto pode ser a terceira pessoa do presente subjuntivo, quanto também a terceira pessoa do imperativo afirmativo. Peguei link específico para a conjugação feminina por obra ser substantivo feminino, apesar do sinônimo trabalho ser um substantivo masculino. Pensando agora, obra soa combinar melhor com tenha e trabalho com tiver, mas não tenho formação linguística para precisar isso (é apenas de parecer mais agradável aos ouvidos mesmo; o que pode, em muitos casos, reproduzir um vício de linguagem). The developers of Pywikibot have decided to stop supporting the compat version of Pywikibot due to bad performance and architectural errors that make it hard to update, compared to core. If you are using pywikibot compat it is likely your code will break due to upcoming MediaWiki API changes (e.g. T101524). It is highly recommended you migrate to the core framework. There is a migration guide, and please contact us if you have any problem.

There is an upcoming MediaWiki API breaking change that compat will not be updated for. If your bot's name is in this list, your bot will most likely break.

Proposal to create PNG thumbnails of static GIF images

How a PNG thumb of this GIF would look like

There is a proposal at the Commons Village Pump requesting feedback about the thumbnails of static GIF images: It states that static GIF files should have their thumbnails created in PNG. The advantages of PNG over GIF would be visible especially with GIF images using an alpha channel. (compare the thumbnails on the side)

Spellcheck para ortografia arcaica do português (pre-1911)

Sorry for not in Portuguese, I'm too novice in it to express my question. I'm sure I'm not the first who asks for it, but is there a spellchecker for old, pre-1911 orthography of Portuguese? Until now I didn't found any spellchecker for ancient Portuguese orthography. Portuguese native speakers seems to be enough busy trying to understand or even arguing against the Acordo Ortográfico de 1990 to develop IT solutions for it. In fact, I don't know any group or website other than Portuguese Wikisource or Distributed Proofreaders@Project Gutenberg that treats those ancient writing conventions as we do; they normally wants to simply convert to the current schemas. Well, I think the spellchecker would be created in five minutes if we had the list of words (including grammatical forms). But I suggest, if it existed, the spellchecker would quickly be created.
So, if we had some de-conversion algorithm (from new to old orthography), I would create the old spellchecker from modern one. But I think nobody created such algorithm, so
I'm not sure, but I may try to create it from any conversion algorithm, do You know where to get one?

Iniciaremos a Pesquisa de Desejos da Comunidade, uma pesquisa a fim de descobrir os projetos mais úteis a serem aperfeiçoados.

Para a 1ª fase da pesquisa, estaremos convidados todos os editores ativos para que enviem breves propostas, explicando o projeto a ser aperfeiçoado e por que é importante. Esta fase levará 2 semanas para ser concluída. Já na 2ª, pediremos que votem nas propostas, e, por fim, analisaremos as 10 principais propostas e criaremos uma lista de desejos prioritária.

Mesmo que a maior parte deste processo será conduzida em inglês, convidaremos pessoas de todas as versões linguísticas das wikis da Wikimedia para que enviem propostas. Também convidaremos tradutores voluntários para ajudar-nos a traduzi-las para o inglês.

Sua proposta deve incluir: o problema a ser resolvido, quem seria beneficiado por ele e uma solução, caso saiba uma. Hello! Wikimania 2016 scholarships will soon be open; by the end of the week we'll form the committee and we need your help, see Scholarship committee for details.

If you want to carefully review nearly a thousand applications in January, you might be a perfect committee member. Otherwise, you can volunteer as "ambassador": you will observe all the committee activities, ensure that people from your language or project manage to apply for a scholarship, translate scholarship applications written in your language to English and so on. Ambassadors are allowed to ask for a scholarship, unlike committee members.

This is to inform all Wikimedia contributors that a straw poll seeking your involvement has just been started on Meta-Wiki.

As some of your might be aware, a small group of Wikimedia volunteers have proposed a banner campaign informing Wikipedia readers about the urgent situation of our fellow Wikipedian, open source software developer and Creative Commons activist, Bassel Khartabil. An exemplary banner and an explanatory page have now been prepared, and translated into about half a dozen languages by volunteer translators.

We are seeking your involvement to decide if the global Wikimedia community approves starting a banner campaign asking Wikipedia readers to call on the Syrian government to release Bassel from prison. We understand that a campaign like this would be unprecedented in Wikipedia's history, which is why we're seeking the widest possible consensus among the community.

Given Bassel's urgent situation and the resulting tight schedule, we ask everyone to get involved with the poll and the discussion to the widest possible extent, and to promote it among your communities as soon as possible.

  • Eu pessoalmente ignoraria o fato de serem duas colunas e faria a correção em texto corrido mesmo, especialmente por essa página se referir a pelo menos três unidades de texto e/ou subpáginas diferentes. Para conseguir acompanhar a imagem enquanto faz o proofread, ir alternando tamanho de zoom, posicionamento da imagem na horizontal ou vertical, arrastar a imagem pelas bordas/centralizar etc. Penso que o que importa é ter a digitalização junto ao texto como forma de comprovação de fidelidade ao seu conteúdo. Iniciamos um PdO no Meta para aumentar os requisitos de senha para os usuários das contas que possam editar MediaWiki:Common.js ou que tenham os direitos de Verificador ou Supervisor.

Tais contas têm acesso sensível aos nossos sites, e podem causar grande danos caso caiam em mãos erradas. Atualmente, o único requisito é que a senha tenha pelo menos 1 caractere. Gostaríamos de alterar este requisito para 8 caracteres (bytes) e banir certas senhas muito comuns.

Aumentando os requisitos de senha nas contas com alto nível de acesso, esperamos tornar as wikis da Wikimedia mais seguras para todos. Por favor, leia o texto completo da proposta em inglês aqui, e opine no PdO.
